The 3rd annual Ukulele World Congress is scheduled for June 3 and 4, 2011 in Needmore, Indiana.

Where is Needmore? Why, next to Nashville, of course! Nashville, Indiana, that is!

Needmore bout 10 miles from Nashville Indiana off State Rd 45 on Plum Creek Rd.

What: Ukes, ukes and more ukes. Lessons, jams and performances. Bonfires. Free camping on site. Bring your swim suits.

Cost: The party and camping is FREE, compliments of Mainland Ukes.

The latest forecast calls for highs of 80 and 83 on June 4 and 5. But the lows will be in the 60′s at night. Last year, I learned that the vast tree coverage in Brown County makes it even cooler. So bring something warm to wear!

Currently, there’s a 30% chance of rain on Friday and at 40% on Friday. Fingers crossed!

BRIDGE OUT! ..and other news

The fabulous DeG made a map of Brown County pointing out the UWC relevant points of interest. A bridge is closed between Nashville and the UWC site, and that’s included in the map.

We’re less than a week away from the Ukulele World Congress. Sorry I’ve not updated the blog very much, but folks have been posting regularly on the Ukulele Underground forum. Check it out for more UWC info and updates.

I’ve learn that Ken Middleton and 13chicken (Matt) won’t be able to attend. I’m bummed. I know I’ll meet them someday, but it will be UWC Day 1 + how many other days too many for me

I was on Louisville radio Friday to play my Doctor Who songs and mentioned the UWC. I know some people are upset on the prospect of the UWC getting too popular. But I don’t think we have to worry about that. Considering the location and its lack of facilities and amenities, I think a lot of first-time attendees will decide not to return in 2011. The true ukers are a hardy lot. The chaff will fall away! (is that an appropriate metaphor?)

Where to shop for groceries at UWC?

The Brown County IGA is one of the coolest grocery stores in Indiana. Because of the high concentration of hippies, artists, vegetarians and etc. in the artistic county, the local IGA carries items that other grocery stores don’t. They have a good supply of organic produce and products as well. To place custom orders, you can call the Brown County IGA Produce Department at 812-988-4546. There’s also a fine assortment of beers and wine.
